Details of the Hike:

    • length: 36 kilometres
    • 650 - 910 m above the sea level
    • in stages suitable for everyone
Dianabrunnen Set off from the Donauhallen event centre in Donaueschingen. Walk along the river Brigach as far as the Dianabrunnen fountain located before the baroque facade of the Fürstenberg brewery. The motif for Diana originates from a suggestion made by Emperor Wilhelm II. Follow the river Brigach on to the palace park (Schlosspark) and the Princely Fürstenberg Palace (Fürstlich Fürstenbergisches Schloss) will be revealed in all its glory.

After a bridge close to the stadium, the land opens out into the natural scenery typical of the Baar region. Cross the river plains on towards Aasen. A yellow diamond marks the route to Heidenhofen where the village church houses the oldest playable organ in the Baar region. It was built in 1733.

Entenburg_R._Sigwart Continue along the church pathway to Immenhöfe where the annual equestrian festival, the Fest der Pferde is held. The panoramic route leading to Pfohren certainly lives up to its name! Upon arrival in Pfohren, it is well worth paying a visit to the renowned Entenburg, a hunting lodge dating back to 1471.

The trail continues on via Neudingen (where the Fürstenbergs’ mausoleum can be found) to the hamlet known as Schächer. A small shrine with three crosses reminds of the ancient district court that once convened here. Unique views can be enjoyed over the Baar region as far as the Black Forest from Fürstenberg hill. Pass through Behla and over Wolfsbühl hill, and you will reach the resort town of Hüfingen. Hike around Kofenweiher lake that lies close to the town and along the river Breg to Allmendshofen.

The striking red town hall dating from 1925 catches the eye here. Continue through the palace park (Schlosspark) back to the Donauhallen events centre in Donaueschingen. Be sure to pay the Danube’s source, located directly in front of St. John’s church a visit beforehand. Toss a coin into the fountain and your wish will be fulfilled!
